Following its annual member meeting held in September, Synapse welcomed two new members to its board of directors.
Stefanie Corbett is the Associate & Director of Operations with Island Capital Partners, a seed-stage Venture Fund based in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Island Capital Partners was founded in 2017 and had been a critical part of boosting the local early-stage innovation community. They invest and mentor innovative founders who have developed a solution or product and require capital and extended networks to achieve substantial growth. Before joining Island Capital, Corbett worked in the Canadian financial sector, where she worked with entrepreneurs and professionals to grow their companies and managed high growth sales teams. Ms. Corbett is a graduate from the University of Prince Edward Island, and currently sits on the board of directors for the Charlottetown Airport Authority.
Gerry Lanigan is a Senior Manager in the Financial Advisory Services practice in Atlantic Canada with BDO Canada LLP with over 17 years of experience in public practice and business advisory. Gerry is a senior leader with the firm’s team in Atlantic Canada, where he specializes in business valuation, corporate finance, litigation support, loss quantification, financing and financial modelling. Having obtained the designation of Chartered Business Valuator (CBV), Gerry advises clients in Atlantic Canada in the area of business valuation for a variety of purposes, including M&A transaction support, expert and limited critique reports, private transactions, raising equity, estate and income tax matters and shareholder disputes. Gerry brings with him a wealth of experience in the start-up sector, having worked with Propel ICT as both a business mentor, finance content facilitator and selection panellist. He currently works with resident companies at Start-up Zone PEI, serving as their exclusive in-house advisor for finance/accounting.
