David J. King finished up his four-year term as the Dean of Business for the College of North Atlantic (CONA) campus in Qatar in August 2019 and is now concentrating on assisting technology-based start-up companies. Prior to joining CONA, King was the President and CEO of GENESIS Group Inc., the technology commercialization arm of Memorial University of Newfoundland. He held that position for the past 21 years. King is a Chartered Accountant. He has taught in the business faculties of Mount Allison University and Memorial University and spent ten years with the federal government involved in regional economic development in Atlantic Canada. King has been named one of the Top 50 CEO’s in Atlantic Canada and was awarded the Life Sciences Leadership Award from the Newfoundland Alliance of Technology Industries. He has served on a number of National and Regional Boards including the Research Partnerships Committee of NSERC, Treasurer of the Alliance for the Commercialization of Canadian Technology (ACCT) and Chair of the Audit Committee for Genome Atlantic. He also served on the Audit Committee of Springboard Atlantic and Chaired the Review Committee for the Community College Innovation Program of NSERC. In 2010, King was presented with the award for outstanding service to the Canadian Technology Transfer Community by the Association of University Technology Managers at their New Orleans conference. He was a Director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Angel Network Board. He was the Conference Chair for the inaugural “Invest Atlantic” event in 2010.
